Library@Orchard Set for Two-Year Revamp: A Fresh Chapter Awaits

Singapore’s iconic library@orchard is set to close its doors for a significant two-year revamp, beginning October 28, 2024.

Known for its focus on design and applied arts, the library has been a favourite among creatives and knowledge seekers since it opened a decade ago. Now, it’s poised for an exciting transformation that promises new experiences for all visitors, including families, students, and design enthusiasts.

One of the highlights of the revamp is the introduction of a brand-new children's section, a first for library@orchard. This addition aims to create an immersive environment for young readers, fostering a love for books through interactive spaces.

Beyond this, the library will feature cutting-edge technology, enabling a more interactive and immersive experience for patrons of all ages. Visitors can look forward to tech-enhanced spaces that will redefine how they explore art, design, and literature.

During the closure, the library’s renowned design and applied arts collection will be relocated to the new Central Arts Library in the National Library Building, with some items also available at the National Design Centre through a partnership with the University of the Arts Singapore.

Set to reopen in the second half of 2026, the revamped library promises to maintain its sleek, minimalist aesthetic while introducing modern enhancements that elevate the user experience.

In the meantime, library@orchard will host a pre-closure event titled "Design Is For Everyone: A Decade of Design, Arts, and Community," running from October 8 to 27, 2024, celebrating the library's journey.

The wait may be long, but the future of library@orchard looks brighter than ever, offering a revitalised space that continues to serve as a hub of creativity in the heart of Orchard Road.
