A Taste of Kyoto in Singapore: Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu

We recently visited Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu, which opened its first outlet in Singapore at Raffles City on September 7, 2024.

Known for its crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside beef cutlets, this popular Japanese chain has attracted long queues in Japan, and it seems Singapore is no exception.

The Gyukatsu Experience

Sirloin and Tenderloin GYUKATSU ZEN SGD $29

The main attraction here is the gyukatsu—a premium beef cutlet fried to perfection and served medium rare. Each table is provided with a hotplate, allowing diners to sear their beef to their preferred level of doneness, which adds a delightful interactive element to the meal.

Sirloin and Beef Tongue GYUKATSU ZEN SGD $32

The signature sets range from SGD $25 to SGD $32, depending on the cut of beef. We recommend trying the Sirloin and Tenderloin combination for a balance of flavours and textures.

Authentic Flavours and Sides

True to the brand’s reputation, the beef cutlet was incredibly tender, offering a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The cuts are coated in a light koromo batter, fried quickly, and paired with dipping sauces like dashi soy and wasabi for that extra flavour kick.

Each set also comes with rice, miso soup, and sides like a fresh cabbage salad. For those looking to indulge, the Miyazaki A5 Wagyu is a highlight, though it comes at a premium price of SGD $55.

Verdict

Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu delivers an authentic taste of Japan in the heart of Singapore, making it a must-visit for beef lovers. The combination of quality ingredients, traditional preparation, and an engaging dining experience sets this restaurant apart. With its competitive pricing and quality offerings, it’s a great place for anyone craving an authentic Japanese meal without leaving the city.
